Community Projects
Youth Hub
GIYC youths are community-driven young people who have led many projects in the Gambian Community. Our initial megger project was the “Youth Hub” at 110 Fairbank Avenue, Toronto. This 350 sq m was built to create a space for young people in the community where they will spend quality time with their peers in a peaceful-welcoming space.
Basketball Court
GIYC’s basketball court was built to engage kids and young people in physical activities. We know that kids who play do better. By supplying GIYC youth-driven, community-based organizations with the gear they need, overhead costs are cut, and more resources become available, helping children stay connected to their communities.
CCTV Security Cameras Projects
At GIYC, we do not sit and wait for change. We lead a change. In 2023, as young people, we recognized the need for security for our community. For this reason, we initiated a project to install 10-high level CCTV security cameras in our Gambian Community Center at 110 Fairbank Avenue. This project has led to lower theft and vandalism rates at the center.
Parking Spot & Pedestrian Lines
Safety is GIYC's priority. We are committed and do not compromise the safety of our community members for anything. As a young people-driven organization, we made it our responsibility to install parking spots and pedestrian lines. This initiative has exponentially reduced the risk of motor accidents involving kids and other members. We are the change!
